Let's go on a  Photography Scavenger Hunt!

hunt_montage.jpg

If you've ever really fancied getting creative with your camera but can't decide what to do, this is the game for you.

It will help you to improve your photography skills and it's fun too. It's a great activity for any camera and any age.

What You'll Need

• Your camera or camera phone

• Your family or friends (it's a great activity to do with the kids too!)

• Pen and Paper

• A keen eye

Compile Your List

Ask your friends and/or family members to write down individual objects or concepts (such as happy, fun, small etc.) for you to photograph. Be sure to ask them to ensure that these items are realistic for you to find!

Ask them to write the name the things individually on small pieces of paper and to fold them up so you can't see what's inside. Once completed, place the bits of paper in a pile and take your pick. What ever is written on the paper is what you need to find and photograph creatively.

Time To Get Started

Once you have picked your project theme take some time to think about how you might approach the subject matter.

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the object.

Think about whether the surroundings of the object are important in relation to context.

How does the subject matter make you feel?

Does it have a prominent colour? If so think about the colour wheel and consider ways you can enhance the colour using complimentary colours.

Think about the best light to photograph the object in.

Before you press the shutter button, think about how you want your picture to look.

What do you want the viewer to look at first?

What's the image about?

How do you want people to feel when they look at the image?

Think about your composition. Consider the placement of the subject in the frame. Can you use leading lines to draw the viewer into the image?

Get in close and try different angles. A good photograph isn't just a picture of the thing - that's a snapshot. A good photograph is considered and thought through.

Considering all of these aspects will really help you create a strong and compelling image.

but most of all... enjoy it!
