In Person Personal Photography Training South Wales

Bespoke one-to-one photography training in South Wales

Your camera. Your questions. Your photography.

There's a lot you can learn from an online course, but sometimes it's helpful to have someone sitting beside you who can answer your questions, look at what you're doing and explain things in a way that makes sense to you, in person.

That's what personal photography training is all about.

We'll work together for 2–3 hours, focusing on your camera, your experience and the kind of photographs you want to take.

Sarah was absolutely wonderful.

She has such a calm, genuine way about her and made me feel comfortable straight away.

She tailored the session to my level of knowledge, never rushed me, and explained things clearly without any pressure.

I never once felt silly asking questions. I came away feeling more confident with my camera and genuinely enjoyed the whole session.

I couldn't recommend her more highly.

A training session that's completely about you

Photography coach showing a male student how to change camera settings during an in-person training session.

You might have just bought your first proper camera and have no idea where to start.

Perhaps you've had your camera for a while but still find yourself reaching for Auto because you're not quite sure what all those other settings actually do.

Or maybe you understand the basics but want help with something specific: getting sharper photos, photographing moving subjects, controlling depth of field, dealing with tricky light, or simply getting more from the camera you already own.

Whatever you're struggling with, we'll start from where you are.

We'll work through the things that will make the biggest difference to your photography, with plenty of time to practise using your own camera and ask all the questions that come up along the way.

A tremendous learning session

I opted for a personal lesson with Sarah which I found a tremendous learning session.

The experience prompted me to go out and purchase a completely new set up.

From this one lesson and the follow up email prompts from Sarah I am already taking pictures in M mode and now I am having some sort of control over the camera not the other way around.

Highly recommend.

What we'll cover

Every session is different because every photographer is different.

Depending on what you need, we might look at:

  • Understanding your camera and its most useful settings

  • Aperture, shutter speed and ISO

  • Getting sharper, better-focused photos

  • Controlling exposure and working with difficult light

  • Creating a blurry background

  • Photographing people, pets, landscapes, travel or wildlife

  • Composition and making your photos more interesting

  • Moving beyond Auto and taking more control

  • Any particular problems or frustrations you're having with your camera

And if there's something specific you've been trying to photograph, bring it along as a goal for our session.

Learn with your own camera

One of the biggest advantages of personal training is that we work with your camera.

You don't have to translate generic instructions from a video or course to work out where that setting is on your particular model.

I'll show you what to do, explain why it matters, and then help you practise it yourself.

By the end, you'll have a much clearer understanding of how your camera works and, more importantly, how to use it to take the photographs you actually want to take.

Your session includes:

  • A personalised, bespoke 3 hour one-to-one training session. We'll meet at a suitable location in South Wales and combine explanation with plenty of hands-on photography.

  • Free lifetime access to my online course - Get Camera Confident worth £97. That means you can revisit the things we've covered, refresh your memory and keep learning after our session has finished. It's like having a reference library you can come back to whenever you need it.

  • Membership to The Friendly Camera Club - stay motivated long after your training finishes with ongoing inspiration, monthly photography projects, friendly support and a community of photographers who are learning alongside you.
