Join me for a two-day Eryri (Snowdonia) photography workshop on the weekend of September 7th & 8th 2024, taking in the majestic and diverse landscapes that the national park has to offer.

This workshop is aimed at beginners, but you should have some knowledge of your basic camera controls (aperture/shutter priority). Ideally you will have already completed my beginners training either in person or online.

During the workshop we will cover:

  • Camera controls and settings
  • Composition techniques to create impactful images
  • The use of different lenses and focal lengths in landscape photography
  • Story telling through imagery
  • There will be plenty of time for 1:1 support for each participant during the day

Day One - Saturday 7th September 2024

We will meet at 9.45am for a 10am start on Saturday morning. On day one we will explore the dramatic industrial scenery of the abandoned Dinorwic Slate Quarry including the famous Anglesey Barracks. The slate industry has played a large part in the cultural identity of North Wales, and the slate landscape has been designated with UNESCO World Heritage Site status. We will explore towering mountains of slate left behind from the production days, photographing some of the old derelict buildings that remain in place. This one of my favourite areas of the national park to explore and photograph.

It is required to ascend a steep incline with many uneven steps to access the quarry. You will need a reasonable level of fitness and mobility to access the location.

Day one will end at approximately 4pm.

Day Two - Sunday 8th September 2024

We will have an early start (7.45am for an 8am start) on day two. This will be the chance to photograph the diverse scenery of the Glyderau and Carneddau mountain ranges from Cwm Idwal, the glacial lakes of Llyn Ogwen and Llyn Idwal and the dramatic Ogwen Falls. This is truly my favourite place on earth!

Please note that the paths that lead to a viewpoint above the lake are rocky and uneven, and there is a steady ascent. You will need a reasonable level of fitness and mobility to benefit from the day.

What to bring

  • Camera (a digital camera with the ability to change your controls manually (such as a DSLR or mirrorless camera) is recommended to get the most from the workshop.
  • Any camera lenses you have

  • Fully charged battery (and a spare if possible)
